trapped in this skin
The majority of my most recent work has continued under the trend of mental health, this semester has specifically been centered on the idea of Body Dysmorphia, or BDD. BDD is a highly underrepresented disorder even though it has regularly been observed for over a century. More serious research did not begin until about twenty years ago, but the disorder still lacks representation in the field of diagnosis and most suffering go undiagnosed because of this. The series of paintings shown to the right are a visual evolution of self realization. Something that I think is not beautiful (in this case my body) can create or be the inspiration of beautiful things. This work is a recording of this revelation and devolves more and more into abstraction over time.
The work on this page is the precursor to my senior studio work. Click here to see how these ideas were resolved!
